Welcome to my first blog…
My name is Nancy Nelson and I have been diagnosed with early on-set Alzheimer’s (AD). Is it true? Is the anesthetic from heart valve surgery still holding my memory hostage or just older age creeping in? Do they call these misgivings about diagnosis … denial? Maybe so.
I have shelved my ego in order to come forward in an awareness crusade for those AD millions unable to speak for themselves. We need to help them!
Do you know someone, besides me, who has Alzheimer’s or dementia? Someone in your family, a friend, someone you suspect is having memory blips?
Sobering facts are … in Nevada there are 29,000 people living with AD. The estimates that have that figure growing to heights of 42,000 people by 2025 are not only possible but reality.
5.4 Million people in the U.S. have AD. With the aging population, and without successful treatment, there will be 16 million Americans and 106 million people worldwide with AD by 2050.
Disquieting, isn’t it? I’ve written poems about my journey and my experiences which I hope enlighten you. Stay tuned to my blog as we partner together in making a difference – one loved one, family member, friend, caregiver – at a time.
